Boulder Racing short track #2 suffered a rain delay. The team was out in force but a brutal storm hit just at the start of the women & junior races. The women started but were bogged down in mud in the 1st 100 yards & had to walk the enitre lap. Bikes weighed in at 60 pounds! This is vicious bike breaking mud. (by the way - egg beater pedals were fantastic !!!)
After an hour delay the course had returned to it's pristine state. The ground is so thirsty it soaks up the water. Unfortunately some of us had to bail die to prior commitments.
Dan Weiler & Justin started of first in the men's B field. Dan got the hole shot on his single speed & rode to a awesome 5th. There was a fun & really wicked uphill. This roller was 20 feet high total with the last 3 feet actually vertical up. The first 3 of 4 guys could fly up it as speed was a key. Everyone else was forced to walk, but it was un-walkable, so they were relegated to tip over backwards & tumble. Justin ended up getting caught in the melle - good effort.
Mike was pressured by the UCI to accept his fate in the men's "A" field. He rode the up the cliff every lap, even running over local pro Mike West on one lap. Mike ultimately finished about 5th. Nice work - an "A" race in Bouder is like the US nationals for quality of rider.
Next up:
Crested Butte for some, Wendy Wagner is riding the E-12 hour in Park City Utah.
