MTB Tip #3 - Deraileur Hangers

Foye from Titus adds a great tip that has been on my "to do" list for months.

Never go to an event without a spare derailleur hanger. You never know what could happen out pre-riding a course and bent derailleur hanger is not a fun way to end a weekend early. Hangers are fairly specific to bike models and even if there is a dealer in the area you're racing, it's not a guarantee that they will have a hanger for you the day (or night) before you race. This is especially important epic rides/races. It could be a very long walk to the finish line and the five minutes it takes to change a hanger could make or break your day. For an epic ride (Kokopelli, White Rim ...) at least one in your group should be carrying a spare hanger. Besides, you never know when a teammate may need a helping hand.

Titus uses one hanger for all their bikes. You can order this from your local shop - in Boulder; Boulder Cyclesport. You can find them online directly from Titus & Competitive Cyclist. They run $32.
