Tour of the Gila - The Gila Monster

Jane Finsterwald brought it home today with a 2nd place in the women's cat 3 road race. She was just 46 seconds off the lead with big time gaps behind her. This rocketed her into 3rd place overall! This all despite that the next youngest competitors are 4 years younger, then 11 years younger than Jane. One of the ladies in the top 10 is 30 years younger - Jane is teaching a thing or three to these youngsters. The total race time is just under 10 hours for Jane.

Sheri Boltz likewise had a fantastic day finishing 10th in the toughest stage of the Gila. This moved her all the way up to 13th in GC. Sheri is going to be a serious force on the mountain bike scene this year.

Keith Sanders finished 14 race hours in the saddle this week with 39th place. The time gaps were big & this also brought him up to 39th overall. Jack Boltz hung in for 64th in the men's cat 4 & 63rd overall.

Fantastic job for all the Chipotle-Titus riders. This is early season for Colorado mountain bikers & racing in New Mexico against the honed Arizona, NM & CA riders is tough. The Gila does not spit out age groups for the most part (the only age group in men is 35+, no women's age groups) so you are racing a big field of skilled riders.
