Colorado finally got its first taste of Cyclocross weather this weekend. It seems like up until this weekend, we lived in a dust bowl and there really has not been much of a hint of moisture on any course. Well, this past weekend, that all changed. Gary Thacker lead the charge on Saturday with a great victory in the 45+ boys. The course down at Chatfield had been covered with snow the night before. If you know the schedule, the 45+ boys race pretty early. I think they start at 8:30 AM, So Gary packed the course in the warm ups, then ripped it apart during his race. Rumor has it that he only had one whammy. It most likely happened switching from singletrack to pavement as the pave was glare ice. Great job Gary. That course was fun. Mike Hogan and Jamie Kilcoyne again filled up some finish spots at 6th and 16th. All racers were seen with mud and smiles on their faces.
On Sunday, riders were delivered more manna from heaven. This time it just kept snowing all day. Believe it or not it stayed dry on Sunday in Louisville and Boulder. But in Morrison, it snowed most of the day and probably dumped a good 6 inches. Suffice to say it was an epic day to ride and race. Karen Hogan jumped in the fun on Sunday and finished a strong 4th in the Women's Open field. She ended up winning the Red Rocks series too. Husband Mike, finished 2nd in the series. Only two more weeks of cross left.
