Day 2 Highlight...Karen Hogan

Day 2 of the Kansas City Cyclocross Nationals brought an amazing array of scenes. The day started off with Ben Hogan racing to 9th place in the 10-12 category. He raced in some of the most hideous conditions with thick and very slippery mud on 90% of the course. it is funny how the kids get to deal with the most difficult conditions of the day.
Early in the afternoon, Karen Hogan put on quite a show in the Masters Women. Karen faced a very fast group that included the former World Single Speed Champion and other fast ladies. Karen rode a great race placing a solid second. She went out fast with the lead group and had a great view of women hitting the deck because of the slippery conditions. Karen kept it up right the whole race but could not hang with the former world champ.

Late in the afternoon Karen let Mike borrow her Titus TRX. Special thanks to Pete Watson who got the Titus beauty cleaned up and ready to race again. Because Mike was born in the wrong year, he ended up racing in the 45-49 category. He was relegated to the back row and clawed his way through the field to 14th. By the time that Mike raced, the course was not slippery at all. It turned out to be very tacky and fast. More racing today. I forgot to mention that back on Day 1 Jamie Kilcoyne raced in the Mens B race in a slop fest. Jamie finished 13th and had a blast in the tune up event. Unfortunately for all the Kilcoynes, there was a nasty bug running around their family. Jamie went down with the flu soon after his race and had to pack up and head home early. Jamie will be back again next fall.
