Well, when Mike, Drew and Tom said today would be the worst, I hope they were right. Wheels fell off. No power. Only 28 miles, but some very steep climbs at pretty good altitude (11k) that came painfully after long descents, w/sharp switchback starts. Talk about lactic acid flush. I just tried to limit the damage. Came in 4th w/a 2:58. Think I'm now 14 mins down on 3rd. So my strategy about picking up the 2 mins I was down at the start of the stage didn't quite pan out!! But I got a 2 hr nap, been hydrating like crazy, and Michele arrives in a few minutes so I have a great massage in my future...VMOs and IT bands are screaming.
Tomorrow is the BIATCH. As Thane said today, it's a world class stage. 2 12,000 ft. pass climbs, 7 climbs even before hitting the first Aid Station. It's got everything, hike-a-bike, a snow field crossing, 8 creek crossings, some very technical, long descents and some ridiculous climbs -- 2o min+ climbs at 11 - 12k. And it looks like it'll be hot.
The results are now linked on Breck Epic's blog site. http://www.CJTiming.com/BreckEpic/index.html.
That's all for now.
