Winter Park Valley Point to Point

A vortex formed in Winter Park the weekend of 11/12 July. The vortex was blue and red, it rode really fast, and it read "Chipotle-Titus." The Chipotle-Titus team dominated the Winter Park Valley Point to Point race on Saturday, pulling in more points (356) than any other team. Not enough for you? Chipotle-Titus riders pulled in another 100 points at Sunday's Super D race. Carol Newsom, Keith Sanders, Kay Levesque and Maria Perez all stood on the top podium spot over the weekend. Jack Boltz, Sheri Boltz, Mark Gouge, and Jamie Kilcoyne worked hard to bring in additional team points. Yet other Chipotle-Titus riders showed up, not to compete for series points but just to enjoy excellent Colorado mountain bike racing. Beginning at the base of Winter Park and ending down valley at St. Louis Creek, the Valley Point to Point race offers riders all the best in Winter Park single track with no epic climbing, just short steep bursts of ups followed by sweeping, buffed out single track....OK maybe a few mud ruts from the recent rains but all very rideable and most enjoyable. The course included an extra 4.5 mile add-on for pro, expert, and sport riders, dumping into Upper Zoom, Zoom and then down into Chainsaw. It's hard not to smile while riding past columbine, sweet woodruff, asters... and catching glimpses through the trees of Devils Thumb pass and the high peaks surrounding Winter Park. The addition of two Super D races to the Winter Park points accumulation enticed some cross country riders to give that discipline a try. Why not ride a lift and then spend the next 25 minutes banking turns, jumping water bars, throwing in a few tail whips, and wearing down your brake pads?? Super D=Super Fun.

Next up:
USA Nationals this week
Crankworx cross country and super D on August 1/2.
