Despite what those nuts who carry their bikes on their shoulders instead of riding, Justin's Cycling is not done racing mountain bikes yet. Three team members headed south to race in Texas last week bringing home a couple of victories! Palo Duro is only 6 hours south of Colorado Springs. Kelly McGrew gives us this race report:
What a great time! The drive from Canyon, Texas to the Palo Duro State park is 10 miles of prairie before you arrive at the huge hole in the ground. It was absolutely beautiful when we got there. The sun was coming up and the low angle light was bringing out all of the color. You descend 700 ft down to the bottom and wind along the canyon. The race started at 10:30 and it was around 50 degrees but quickly warmed up to the mid 70's. What a glorious day in November to race a mountain bike. It was a 3 1/2 loop course that was almost all single-track and was really busy, constant elevation and direction changes. There were not big climbs but parts of the course had some challenging sharp short climbs. It was quite a workout. There were three Justin's riders there, Beth Gouge 1st 40-49 (3rd Women and in the "$$"), Mark Gouge 10th Open (16th overall), Kelly McGrew 1st 50+ (15th overall). This race is most certainly worth the drive!
