Laramie Enduro

Chipotle-Titus had four riders on the line for the 2007 Laramie Enduro Saturday. Laramie is a  111k ultra marathon that covers virtually every type of terrain. The race runs through "S" turn single track in open meadows, climbs through pine forests, runs across un-ridden cow pasture, fords thigh deep bogs & has some brutal, steep rocky climbs just when you are the most tired. I am amazed at the effort to lay this course out. As a veteran of all the Colorado ultra - Durango, Leadville, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge I can say this is the most technical, the toughest, but as one of the most beautiful & fun rides.

The 2007 version was greeted by rains several days before the race but fortunately no rain at the start. The course was very wet but the mud factor was minimal. There was dense fog at the start that limited visibility. We were greeted by spectacular views as the fog burned off an hour into the race - that is if your heart rate was low enough to actually see anything.

Mike Hogan started like this was a short track race with Dan Melish on his tail. Hogan was sitting in 4th at 20 miles but zigged when the course zagged  & wondered way off course. The course is marked but you have to look very closely to avoid these detours. Lots of riders went astray. Mike ultimately finished 6th in the pro/over 35 field. Melish kept on course & other than some bleeding from a few endos finished 3rd in the pro/under 35 field with a time of  5:53. This was a couple minutes faster than last year despite the increase in water hazards this year. Drew Geer rode a steady race with no detours or crashes to finish 11th in the pro 35 class.

Toni Geer was our lone woman in the event, riding her first ultra. She rode a stellar race to finish 7th in the pro women field with a time of 7:27. The rocky technical sections are not Toni's forte & there was no shortage of them. She kept chasing down the field on the climbs & held her own on the descents. No crashes & an awesome result!
