The Growler

Legendary MTB racer Dave Weins became a race director this Sunday in Gunnison with the "Growler", an awesome course at Hartman Rocks. The 60 mile long course was comprised of technical trails & 8000+ feet of climbing. There was an option to knock off a single lap for a manageable 30 miles. Travis Brown won the long race in 6:02. The average speed should give you an idea of the difficulty.

Mark Gouge pulled out a top 10 overall finish & sends us this report:
  • We had 5 Chipotle kitted up for the inaugural Growler and 1/2 Growler put on by Dave Weins himself. If you've never experienced the riding around Gunnison's Hartman Rocks, you should try it. A 32 mile loop though Wein's back yard had plenty of climbing, plenty of winding singletrack, plenty of technical WTF sections. Beth Gouge and Liliana Perez finished the 1/2. Liliana was 2nd and Beth was 3rd in the Women's 40+ cat. Mark Gouge managed to squeak out a top 10 overall, after reeling a few "went to hard on the first lappers". There was a lot carnage on the 2nd lap. Keith Sanders and Kelly McGrew finished in 19th and 34th overall respectively.
Next up: The Winter Park Series kicks off with the Hill Climb Saturday. The course is ready to ride. Get your cross bike geared up for a super fast ride! Short Track is on in Boulder this Wednesday (see our links to the right for details)
