Midweek Racing

Karen Hogan en route to a 3rd place finish at the CU Cycling ST #3

Kelly McGrew has been flying the Chipotle colors in the midweek Sandcreek series. He was 2nd in the 45+ field on Wednesday. This Year Sand Creek put on a three race series in Bear Creek Park, near the Broadmoor. The first race had a total of 77 racers, the second had 114, and last night I heard was over 140. The course is 2 mile single track with 200 feet of climbing per lap. The races are 55 minutes plus one lap for Pros/Experts.

CU Cycling has taken over the Boulder Short track series & is doing a great job. Karen Hogan was 3rd in the A women field against some tough competition. Toni Geer was 12th in the same field. The Men's B field was the biggest field of the evening with over 50 shooting for a slot on the 2 1/2 minute single track course. The field jams up so much the leaders are actually 1/2 of the way around the course before the last of the field passes the first bottleneck. Mark Gouge led the team in with a 21st, followed by Geer, Green & Kilkoyn. Mike Hogan & Thomas Dooley races the superfast A race. Hogan took a crash lap 2 & dropped to the end. He clawed his was back to 15th with Dooley in 22nd.

The sky was ominous & threatening the rain that turns the CU venue into bike eating mud. The storms held off all evening leaving just the wind & dust to battle.
