The Winter Park series officially kicked off on Saturday with a great turn out of racers. The course was 18 miles of some of the best the Winter Park Ski area has to offer. The area is losing trees very fast due to pine beetle kill. Apparently on one trail alone, there were 30 trees down in one week which makes it very difficult for trail crews to keep up with. The pine beetle is having an effect on the trail system there and forcing race promoters to look over their courses the morning of the race due to trees falling down over night.
The course and race was amazing. Winter Park sets the standard when it comes to a well oiled race. The course was amazing, there were two course marshalls at every intersection, support, timing and awards all very smoothly handled in a 1st class manner. Hats off to the WP Comp Center for their efforts.
The Justin's Titus squad was out in full force this weekend and were all over the podium.
Coreen Wright and Sherry Boltz went 1-2 in the Expert Womens 4049. These two are riding amazingly fast and would have been in the top 5 in the Womens Pro field. Mike Hogan was 14th in the Mens Pro field. Dan Mellish was 17th in the Expert 30-39s. Jamie Kilcoyne was 19th in the Mens 40-44 field. Dave Wright was 6th in the Expert 45-49 group. Keith Sanders and Mark Gouge went 2-3 in the Expert 50+ and Jack Boltz was in 14th. This group is also huge and extremely competitive. If we missed anyone, let us know. Great job everyone.
Next up is Firecracker. Be sure to load your pockets with Justin's Nut Butter to hand out to all of the people watching the parade. It is also nice to have out on course too!
